Oakwood Cemetery is the oldest cemetery in the city of Tyler, Texas. It’s history is here. A listing of known burials is here.

In 1997, our Chapter helped start the Oakwood Cemetery Preservation Committee in conjunction with the city of Tyler.  After years of neglect the cemetery is being restored and has been designated as a historic cemetery.
On Saturday, April 2, 2005, our Oakwood Cemetery Restoration Committee presented a walking history tour entitled 'The Spirits of Oakwood' through Historic Oakwood.   This event was approved by the City of Tyler and has become an annual event each year during the Tyler Azalea Trails.  All proceeds from the event are used to repair the hundreds of broken monuments in the cemetery.
Information about the next ‘Spirits of Oakwood’ can be found at the Tyler Chamber of Commerce Azalea Trails website or on our calendar.
