Memorial Objective
Photograph #3
On March 10, 1999, Mollie Moore Davis 217 and the City of Tyler hosted the ceremony for the dedication of Oakwood Cemetery, Tyler, Texas, as a Texas Historical Cemetery.
This dedication was the culmination of efforts by the Oakwood Cemetery Association.  Mollie Moore Davis 217 is an integral part of the committee.
The cemetery is the resting place of Texas Governor Richard Hubbard and many dignitaries from Tyler.  Over 200 unknown Confederate soldiers and many Confederate veterans are buried there.   Numerous veterans from others wars are also buried at Oakwood.   Each April a memorial service is held at the base of the Confederate Monument.
Pictured in the center is Texas Congressman Ralph Hall.  In the background is the new lighted flagpole purchased by Mollie Moore Davis 217 and installed and lit by the City of Tyler.  In an agreement with the City of Tyler, a First National Flag flies year round beneath the US flag.   In the right background can be seen the Confederate Monument.
